Southwestern Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is one of four regional centers within the Connecticut AHEC Program, which is located at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington. The other AHEC centers are located strategically throughout the state:
The Connecticut AHEC Program, through which the four AHECs are implemented, was established in 1995 by the Connecticut General Assembly, and received its initial federal funding from Human Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) in 1997.
Southwestern AHEC was established in 1998 as a center to serve southern Fairfield and New Haven counties. In January 2006 Southwestern AHEC converted into an independent 501(C)3 non-profit agency, located in Trumbull, CT.
MISSION: To enhance access to quality primary and preventive healthcare in Southwestern Connecticut by linking students, providers and families through education, workforce development and community collaborations.
