Joan has worked extensively in the health care field, in a variety of settings and positions.
Before coming to Southwestern AHEC, she worked in Marketing and Product
Development for Anthem BCBS/CT; and before that for Community Health Care Plan
HMO (CHCP), where she held the positions of Corporate Planning Associate, Risk
Manager, and HMO Sales & Marketing Manager. In Chicago, Joan was Associate
Marketing Manager for PruCare HMO; and in Boston, she worked for Beth Israel
Hospital, Fenway Community Health Center, and Harvard Community Health Plan.
Joan
has done volunteer health counseling for Planned Parenthood and the Fenway Women’s
Health Collective, and has presented guest lectures at the Harvard School of Public
Health, the University of Connecticut/Storrs, and Southern CT State University.
As Director of Programs for Southwestern AHEC, Joan supports the Executive Director
by:
Overseeing the operational planning, execution and evaluation of the AHEC’s
programs; developing outside funding sources;
Ensuring compliance with existing grant requirements, including report
submissions;
Contributing to the development and implementation of short- and long-range
goals, objectives, policies, operating procedures and budgets;
Collaborating with community organizations, agencies, projects, school
systems/universities;
And assisting with agency marketing and communications activities.
The common theme through Joan’s professional career has been a commitment to making high quality health care more accessible and affordable. She holds a B.A. from Oberlin
College in Ohio, and a Master’s in Public Health from Boston University.
