Vani Anand has worked as ORBIT’s Oral Health Care Coordinator since August, 2007. She received her MPH degree in Community Health Education/Health Promotion from Southern Connecticut State University (1998). She concurrently worked as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Public Health. Her graduate work included an internship with UNICEF NYHQ, developing a profile of its polio eradication program in Africa, and conducting a mid-term evaluation of one of UNICEF’s Participatory Learning Workshops. Vani is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES). She is also a Certified Emergency Medical Technician.
She graduated with a BA from Mount Carmel College, Bangalore, India. Her professional experience includes working as a consultant for UNICEF NYHQ; Dedicated Group Service Associate with Oxford Health Plans; Intake Worker with the State of CT Department of Social Services in Bridgeport; and as Prevention Specialist with the CT Council on Problem Gambling. Her abstracts have been accepted by The American Public Health Association as well as the Connecticut Public Health Association for their annual meetings; and she has presented at various state and national conferences. Vani is a member of the American Public Health Association, Connecticut Public Health Association (active member of its Health Education Committee); National Commission for Health Education Credentialing; Society for Public Health Education; and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
Vani is passionate about serving the underserved. She has worked on a voluntary basis with oral health and family planning agencies in India, including improving access and facilitating free dental care to children in villages around Bangalore, India.
She is based at Southwestern AHEC’s office at 5520 Park Avenue, Trumbull, but works extensively in the field, supporting the efforts of Southwestern AHEC ’s ORBIT partners to improve care coordination by facilitating timely access to primary and specialty dental care, and improving appointment compliance for HUSKY children through education and addressing logistical barriers.
Vani is the proud mother of two sons.
